PATTI is an ancient Sicilian small town situated on the northern coast of Sicily, 65 km away on the western side of Messina. In its surroundings beautiful beaches of sand alternate to rocky cliffs in one of the most attractive stretches of shore all over Sicily. Worth visiting are: the Norman Cathedral, the ruins of the Roman Villa with its precious mosaics, the Museum of the Ceramics; Tyndaris - very ancient Roman-Greek town founded in 396 B.C. - whose important archaeological site still maintains the original Greek Theatre, the Basilica, the thermal baths and the ruins of the ancient walls; the Natural Reserve of Marinello with its peculiar dunes of sand enclosing three salty water little lakes and also with its interesting marine caves reachable either on foot or by boot. Some of the most important happenings worth attending are: “la processione delle varette” (religious parade taking place on the Holy Friday), “Tindari Festival” which is a prose, music, ballet review on stage in the suggestive Greek theatre of Tindari during the summer months of July and August; the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows - with its peculiar and suggestive parade on the sea and popular games on the road - occurring on the second weekend of September.
